My name is Shalawn March, and I am a Programs Manager with Rebuilding Together DC–Alexandria (RTDC-A). At RTDC-A, we provide free home repairs to homeowners and residents in Washington, DC, and Alexandria, VA. Our mission is to support low-income residents—ranging from older adults to young families—by helping them remain safe and healthy in their homes.

I have the privilege of leading multiple programs, including the DC Safe at Home Program and the HUD Older Adult Home Modification Program. I am deeply committed to connecting underserved communities with essential resources, and this course has strengthened my skills and effectiveness throughout the entire program management process with Home Modifications.

I am an occupational therapist and owner of Liv Equipt. We specialize in home accessibility and creating functional homes tailored to our client’s unique needs through the lens of a medical professional to improve function, independence and support aging in place, health and fall prevention. We serve clients of all ages through in-home OT, home accessibility assessments, design and partnering with contractors and non-profits to implement recommended modifications.

Previously worked for the Area Agency on Aging providing home assessments for Fall Prevention program. Currently available to consult to individuals for home assessment needs.

With my Executive Certificate in Home Modification, I have agreed to do the home modification assessments for the Disability Services and Legal Center in Sonoma County, where I will be utilizing the Home for Life software program.

Knowledge derived from the Executive Certificate in Home Modification Program, CAPS (Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist) and decades of experience as a Physical Therapist in the area of rehabilitation contribute to a in-depth assessment and a comprehensive home modification proposal.

Adaptable Abodes, LLC is an Occupational Therapy–led accessibility consulting practice specializing in aging in place, home modifications, accessible design, and medically complex cases. We help individuals and families navigate housing decisions, remodeling projects, and accessibility needs related to aging, disability, injury, and progressive conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, dementia, stroke, MS, ALS, SCI, and TBI. Services include home assessments, contractor-ready recommendations, homeowner advocacy, virtual consultations, and education for consumers and professionals.

I provide comprehensive evaluations and make recommendations to ensure the best fit between people and their homes.

As an occupational therapist, I am Board-Exam Certified in Gerontology (BCG) by the American Occupational Therapy Association and am committed to excellence in rehabilitation care for older adults. Additionally, I am a Certified Professional in Age-Friendly Healthcare (CPAFH) through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, dedicated to being a strong team player and contributor to interdisciplinary geriatric care teams.

Previously, I earned my clinical doctorate in occupational therapy from Washington University in St. Louis. At WashU, I was a graduate student researcher for three years in the Participation, Environment and Performance Laboratory under the mentorship of Dr. Susan Stark, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, FGSA. There, I conducted research on occupational therapist-led home modification interventions for preventing falls and promoting functional independence among community-dwelling older adults.
