Dory Sabata, OTD, OTR, SCEM is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Department of Occupational Therapy Education and an instructor for the National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modification at USC. For more than 10 years, her work has focused on the needs of older adults. Before returning to graduate school to become an occupational therapist, she was a direct service provider in both residential and employment settings for older adults and persons with developmental disabilities. Dr. Sabata serves on the AOTA Board for Advanced and Specialty Certification representing Environmental Modifications. Dr. Sabata’s current research interests involve understanding how environmental features and assistive technology can maximize occupation for people with disabilities including aging populations at home and in the community. Dr. Sabata has published numerous peer reviewed articles, chapters, and presented many workshops on home modification. Her most recent published work in 2008 was a chapter, “Environmental models used to guide occupational therapy practice with older adults, “Strategies to Advance Gerontological Excellence: Promoting Best Practice in Occupational Therapy.”
